Information

Sunbury-on-Thames lies 16 miles south west of Central London in the Borough of Spelthorne. The town is divided into two geographical areas: Lower Sunbury and Sunbury on Thames. Sunbury borders Ashford, Hampton & Shepperton. Lower Sunbury, beside the River Thames, has retained its village atmosphere, while Sunbury on Thames to the north is more urban. Sunbury Cross, the modern centre of the town, marks the point where the A316 (the main road from London) becomes the M3, leading onto the M25. Today a number of office buildings including the main head office for British Petroleum (BP) and other industrial estates have grown up around Junction 1 on the M3, providing many jobs over the years. One of many attractions to Sunbury is the River Thames and it's pretty walks along the River, boats can also be hire at Wilson`s Boat Yard for all to enjoy. The Walled Garden in Lower Sunbury, set out on classical formal lines, includes a flower bed dedicated to the Princess of Wales. Beside the Walled Garden is Orchard Meadow which forms Sunbury's village green. Sunbury has been the home of the London Irish Rugby Club since 1932, adjacent to Virgin Active Health Spa. Just to the east of Sunbury lies Kempton Park Racecourse, known as 'London's Racecourse'. In 2006 the racecourse, which stages both National Hunt and Flat racing, re-opened with a new all-weather track and floodlighting. Kempton Park holds many race nights as well as a weekly market and music events. Education in Sunbury: Sunbury is home to many families as there is a vast choice of nursery, infant, primary and secondary schools. Some of which are; St Pauls Catholic Sixth Form College, Sunbury Manor School (Foundation school, a specialist humanities school) and The Bishop Wand Church of England School. Transport to and from Sunbury: As well as easy access to all major road links, Sunbury also has excellent rail connections directly to London Waterloo and in recent times there has been a great increase in the number of people commuting to London.
