Guide to Bayswater

Bayswater is a stylish, cosmopolitan and multicultural district in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Located just two miles from London’s Charring Cross, the area has a population of 17,500 per square metre and is home to several ethnic communities. The area is home to London’s main Greek Orthodox Church, St Sophia’s Cathedral. As well as providing regular church services, the church runs a school and endeavours to teach Greek children about their heritage through traditional activities such as Greek Dance. The UK headquarters of the Roman Catholic Opus Dei are also located in Bayswater.

Bayswater is the home of many famous British figures, including former prime-ministers Winston Churchill and Tony Blair, actresses Jennifer Saunders and Keira Knightley, and scientist Alexander Fleming. TV Presenter Demot O’Leary was also born in the area.

Many of the properties in the area are built in the traditional terrace style and have been split up to create new, modern flats and stylish apartments. Untouched terraces are available, and continue to be popular amongst families, providing spacious rooms and large gardens. Listed buildings in the area include the Mitre, a 19th century house located at 24 Cavern Terrace.

The street is also home to the largest ice rink in the city of London, The Queen’s Ice & Bowl Rink, and recent investments in the area have made it one of the most popular entertainment hubs in London.
