Guide to Hounslow
The leafy district of Hounslow is located on the outskirts of West London, in the borough of the same name. Originally centred around the historic Holy Trinity Priory, it has remained an important settlement even after the priory’s dissolution thanks to its key position on the Bath Road between London and the West Country.
From its humble beginnings, Hounslow has flourished into an economic hub on the edge of the capital. Large-scale development took place in Hounslow during the 19th and 20th centuries, with a series of factories and company headquarters being built on and around the Bath Road.
While the factories have largely closed down since their mid-20th century heyday, development has continued apace, with new office blocks, hotels and housing now dotted throughout the district. The Treaty Centre – a major shopping centre that adjoins the high street – is home to retailers such as Clarks, Debenhams and Next, while a wide array of local businesses, cafes and restaurants can also be found in the area.

Despite the modernisation of Hounslow, it retains a connection with the past, with a number of beautiful historic buildings to be found across the district. Particularly worthy of note are Osterley Park, a National Trust-owned mansion set in a large park, and the 200-acre Syon Park and House.
Lovers of the outdoors will appreciate the amount of green space to be found in Hounslow. To the west of the district lies Hounslow Heath, a nature reserve and open public space, while the likes of Osterley Park, Crane Valley Park and Gunnersbury Park are also well worth a visit.
Fortunately for commuters, the quantity of parkland does not come at the expense of quality transport links. The M4 and M25 motorways are both within easy reach; Hounslow West, Hounslow Central and Hounslow East tube stations offer easy access to the rest of London; and Heathrow Airport is just a short distance away via road or underground.
