Stanmore sits on the edge of London, but remains close enough to the capital for an easy commute. As the last stop on the Jubilee line, it offers frequent direct services to Canary Wharf and London Bridge. As such, this sleepy suburb attracts both young professionals and families looking to relocate to quieter surroundings.

In an area that blends rural countryside with exciting attractions, Stanmore manages to exceed expectations. The acres of parkland and commons sit alongside picturesque housing developments, not to mention Stanmore’s famed mansions. These architectural gems provide an insight into the area’s opulent past, as do the many Victorian-era and Georgian properties.

For those who enjoy the great outdoors, it’s an area with plenty to see and do. Take a stroll through Queensbury Park, play tennis at Stonegrove, or admire the 100-year-old course at Stanmore Golf Club.

Despite its rural charm, all the luxuries of a modern town are present on the high street. Known as Stanmore Broadway, this vibrant road sees all the major retailers sit alongside a tempting choice of eateries. Residents also have the convenience of the Brent Cross Shopping Centre located nearby.

Finally, newcomers to the area have the choice of excellent schools, both private and state. It’s one more reason to join the residents of Stanmore, who share picturesque surroundings and city centre convenience.

What is Stanmore Like?

Stanmore is a quiet and leafy North London suburb located just 11 miles north-west of central London which provides a calmer lifestyle many London workers might be seeking. Known for its large green spaces and numerous lakes, Stanmore is further complimented by a number of independent shops, family-friendly restaurants and large supermarkets.

Stanmore’s recorded history dates back to at least the Roman occupation. The name of Stanmore was first recorded in the Domesday Book to signify a stony pool. In the 19th century, the village of Stanmore underwent a transformation, when substantial villas were built around the church and manor house and mansions were rebuilt. Many properties in the area remain from this period of growth.

The district increasingly developed into a London suburb during the 20th century. Today, Stanmore is an ideal location for those who are looking for a tranquil area away from the busyness of central London. It has developed into a commuter town and is served by a local tube station which is the northern terminus of the Jubilee line.

Transport Links

Stanmore tube station provides convenient, reliable and frequent links to central London. A direct route to Canary Wharf takes less than an hour, or you can change at Stafford and get to London Victoria in around forty minutes.

Buses running through Stanmore include the 142 towards Watford Junction, the 340 towards Harrow, the 324 offering a direct link to Brent Cross Shopping Centre, and the 107 towards New Barnet.

For those travelling by car, the M1 and M25 motorways are just a short drive away. For international travel, Heathrow Airport is 15 miles south via the B466, and London Luton Airport is 22 miles north via the M1.

Schools in the Area

Stanmore and its surrounding areas are known for offering an outstanding level of education. The town is just a few miles away from some of the most distinguished independent schools in the whole of the UK, including:

Stanmore is also within the catchment area for a number of highly regarded independent schools and colleges, as well as state secondary schools. These include:

Stanmore is also home to a number of excellent primary schools, with most rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted including Stanburn Primary School, Avanti House Primary School and St John’s Church of England School

Outdoor Spaces, Shopping, Sport and Leisure in Stanmore

One of Stanmore’s most notable features is its abundance of outdoor space. Numerous parks as well as woodland reserves provide Stanmore’s residents with plenty of opportunities for outdoor enjoyment.

Stanmore Country Park is a 30.7 hectare public park and official Local Nature Reserve which is just north of Stanmore tube station. Bentley Priory Nature Reserve is a beautiful area of natural unkempt woodland with varying habitats. Bernays Public Gardens, Stanmore Common, Spring Ponds and the Montrose Walk are some of the other beautiful outdoor areas to explore in Stanmore.

Stanmore has just about all the shops and amenities you need, from paint shops to independent stores for lady’s clothes. The majority of shops, supermarkets and restaurants are centred around The Broadway and Church Road in the centre of the town. Here you will find both large chain stores as well as independent stores. Some of Stanmore’s most highly regarded shops include the excellent health store, Natural Health Options Ltd, the kitchen furniture shop Schmidt Stanmore and Squire’s Garden Centre. For a wider selection of shops, you can travel to the Brent Cross Shopping Centre , which is seven miles away, The Broadwalk Centre in Edgeware, or the Atria in Watford, which is just five miles away.

There are two impressive museums in the Stanmore too, the Bentley Priory Museum, an eighteenth to nineteenth century stately home with lots of WW2 history, and the Royal Air Force Museum, located on the former Hendon Aerodrome. Also, not too far away, there is the wonderful Harrow Arts Centre.

Stanmore is an area with a rich sporting pedigree too. Stanmore Cricket Club is one of the oldest cricket clubs in the Middlesex County Championship League. Stanmore Golf Club, founded in 1893, is a beautiful golf course offering terrific views and challenging play. There is also Stanmore Bowls Club, The Elms Tennis Club, Centenary Sixes for six-a-side football, the Aspire Leisure Centre and the Canons Sports Centre & Gym.

Also, it’s easy to forget that Stanmore is just five miles away from the home of the England national football team, Wembley.

Anscombe & Ringland is now Chancellors.

In December 2017, London’s local estate agent, Anscombe & Ringland Stanmore, excitedly announced that it would soon be known as Chancellors Stanmore. The aim of the change was to unite all the brands of the Chancellors Group of Estate Agents under one brand. This enabled us to focus our resources and efforts on a single entity and maximise the support and exposure of all our services for the benefit of customers and clients.

Anscombe & Ringland always had the support and resources of the Chancellors Group, one of the largest independent estate agents in the UK. Being a member of this group formed part of Anscombe & Ringland’s unique marketing strategy, which included a far-reaching network of over 50 branches and 700 other associated agents and a prominent presence both online and on the high street.

This meant that Anscombe & Ringland had access to a considerable database of buyers and tenants which has helped them achieve record results across the region over the years.

If you previously enjoyed the service provided by Anscombe & Ringland Stanmore, you can be assured that it’s only the name we have changed, and you will receive the same great service from Chancellors Stanmore.
