A £10m road improvement project in North Oxford, designed to ease congestion, is coming to the end of its 16-month duration.

Due to be completed in November 2016, the project involves the Cutteslowe and Wolvercote roundabouts, on Banbury and Woodstock Road respectively, which are key junctions on arterial routes into the city that are heavily congested at peak times. In the coming years traffic congestion will increase due to the development of the Northern Gateway, housing and employment growth in west and north Oxfordshire, and the new Oxford Parkway train station providing a direct service to London (read our blog ‘New Oxford Parkway Station: The Impact on Property Prices’).

The improvement work to help this congestion includes:

  • Introducing traffic signals on both roundabouts
  • Widening the main A40 and A44 approaches to both roundabouts
  • Installing new pedestrian and cycle crossing facilities
  • Introducing new off-carriageway cycle facilities
  • Introducing new and reduced speed limits on the A40 and A44 approaches to both roundabouts
  • Associated work such as resurfacing, street lighting and drainage
