A favorable report by HBF (British Housing Federation) and Glenigan’s states that the number of planning permissions granted rose by 10% for new homes in Q3 of 2016.

What is even more impressive is that this is 14% higher than during the same period last year. In total, there were permissions for 76,242 homes granted in England between July and September. This impressive gain was largely based on a 22% increase in the number of private housing units approved and was not significantly impacted by the 27% drop in social housing units that were approved.

“As expected, we are seeing an increase in housing permissions for private stock and this is aiding the growth of new builds overall in the country”- Robert Courtney, Head of Land & New Homes.

The strong rise demonstrates that housebuilders and other key stakeholders have growing confidence in the housing market and their prospects for 2017.  This confidence is in part down to in the government’s efforts to encourage new housing through the Neighborhood Planning Bill and Green Villages.
