Since early December Chesham Society’s committee has been busy forming various visions for the development needs of the area. Eight visions have been created of what Chesham should aspire to achieve by the year 2036. Chairman Tony Molesworth said, “We hope some or all these visions can be discussed, enlarged upon and adopted, so that they feature in the new Local Plan when it is adopted in July 2018.”

Vision 1
St Mary’s Way will be replaced by a by-pass or underpass.

Vision 2
Contingent on Vision 1 being enacted, a mixed development of Star Yard car park has been considered providing lower level/underground parking, employment space for shops and restaurants and one/two floors of residential accommodation.

Vision 3
Public access made to the River Chess, for the community and tourists, comprising of picnic/leisure areas, community orchards and adjoining allotments.

Vision 4
A new business park should be established on the periphery of Chesham to attract new business and encourage some existing users to move out of the town centre, easing congestion and pollution.

Vision 5
An alternative/extension to Vision 4 – a large business park on the old Bovingdon Airfield.

Vision 6
Expansion to be made of The Elgiva facilities, by providing a second auditorium/cinema and accommodation for rehearsing, recording and teaching. Centre to also be considered for relocation to the development proposed in Vision 2. Alternatively, a new location for the centre is amongst thoughts, close to the high street which could include a hotel.

Vision 7
There is need for a new multi-purpose recreation and sporting complex to include hard surfaces, pitches, and a track and field facility with an eight lane all weather running track, ideally situated next to an existing facility.

Vision 8
A necessity more than a vision – to preserve the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the old town and other heritage buildings within the town and Lowndes Park.

These visions will make living in Chesham even more appealing. The area is already a popular choice to live due to its abundance of countryside and conservation areas on the doorstep; reputable schools; and good transport links. Our Chancellors branch in the town welcomes such significant development which will enhance its already successful property sales and lettings businesses.
