North London is a dynamic and vibrant place to live, with neighbourhoods and ‘urban villages’ to suit all lifestyles. From mansions on Totteridge Lane to canal side apartments in St John’s Wood, North London has an array of exciting areas and properties.

North London has a number of boroughs and neighbourhoods, some known for their busy activity and creative spirit, with others offering quieter and village-like lifestyles, perfect for young families.

It goes without saying that the hustle and bustle of central London is never far away for North London residents too, with excellent transport links providing easy access to the city centre.

Being more affordable than central London and offering an enviable standard of living, North London is particularly popular among renters. The area is home to a number of fantastic markets, entertainment facilities and shopping hotspots, as well as numerous highly regarded restaurants and eateries.

Many who move to North London end up staying in the area for much longer than they originally planned, and it is little wonder why.

What are the Different Areas of North London Like?

Famed for its upmarket, suburban and family-friendly feel, North London is a highly desirable area of the capital. The bustling markets of Camden Town and lively nightlife in Islington are one side to North London, whilst the likes of Hampstead, Swiss Cottage and leafy St John’s Wood offer a more relaxed lifestyle.

North London’s desirability is due in large part to the residential feel of many of its areas. The village-like vibe and strong community network of these areas endear people from all over the world.

As we have alluded to, North London offers a variety of different lifestyles to suit all tastes. For young professionals who want to live in a lively area, Camden Town with its eclectic markets and many activities is the ideal place. Likewise, Islington is a great place for those looking for a happening area, well-known for its independent boutiques, restaurants, theatres and clubs, and lively nightlife scene.

Finsbury Park is another lively area of North London with a thriving social scene, popular for its busy music calendar throughout the year. In the warmer months, Finsbury Park hosts a number of outdoor music events too. Archway is an up-and-coming area of North London, with its own share of independent cafes, restaurants and events.

For a quieter pace of life, Hampstead is one of the most suitable areas of all. Surrounded by the beautiful 320-hectare Hampstead Heath, Hampstead is the perfect place for those who want to be near central London but still have access to spectacular outdoor space. Hampstead is not short of local hangouts either with independent bookstores, Hampstead Community Market and a number of restaurants and pubs.

Highgate is renowned for its community feel and village-like atmosphere, and is a wonderful place to call home for young families. Nearby, Crouch End, offers a relaxed village atmosphere too, and has the fantastic Art House Cinema. These areas are notable for their charming properties, including Georgian and Victorian homes, as well as 1920s and 1930s Art Deco properties. More modern developments can also be found here. These areas of North London offer undeniable family appeal, with good state and primary schools as well as charming high streets.

The iconic Victorian Grade II building Alexandra Palace is in this area too. This hugely impressive venue stages sports, exhibitions, music, circuses and much more throughout the year, and affords spectacular panoramic views of London.

Heading further south and into North-West London, the likes of St John’s Wood, Swiss Cottage, Primrose Hill, Belsize Park, Little Venice and Maida Vale offer a wonderful standard of living. With tree-lined avenues, ample green spaces, vibrant high streets and commercial activity and a family-friendly feel, these areas are some of the most desirable in all of London. This area of North London is home to marvellous independent boutiques and outstanding restaurants, as well as iconic landmarks like Lord’s Cricket Ground and the Abbey Road Studios

Much of the property in these areas is late Georgian, and you will also find beautiful old Victorian terraced homes, as well as a number of new-build schemes too. These areas of London are highly sought-after and command high property prices.

Professional and Always Available

Our agent Chris showed up.on time and showed us the property well, giving us all the information we needed. Both him and the rest of the team made sure we would have direct and transparent communication, despite very indecisive, inconsistent responses from the landlord of the house we made an offer for.
Definitely positive experience with Chancellors and with Chris.
