Chalfont St Giles, with its duck pond, 18th century cottages and ancient high street is a picturesque village on the edge of the Chilterns, about one hour’s drive from central London and around half an hour from West London, Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Watford. Other villages nearby include Little Chalfont, Chalfont St Peter, Seer Green and Jordans.
The area is full of history – the Parish Church dates back to the 12th century; Milton’s Cottage is the only surviving building where England’s famous poet, John Milton, is known to have lived; and Stonewells Farm is believed to be the oldest house in the village dating back to the 15th century.
The village is also home to the Chiltern Open Air Museum set in 45 acres of attractive parkland and woods with over 30 rescued historic buildings and a Victorian Farm. Chalfont St Giles offers the visitor sightseeing, shopping, restaurants and pubs. The village also hosts a country show, village market and literary festival as well as many other regular events to mark key dates during the year.
Sports, social clubs and activities in the village are thriving and include bowls, cricket, football, fitness, golf, tennis, youth club, scouts, guides and much more. Local schools are Chalfont St Giles Infant School and Nursery and Chalfont St Giles Junior School, both of which have a good reputation. There are many excellent secondary schools nearby, including a number of grammar schools.
