Crickhowell is an Anglicisation of the nearby Iron Age hill fort Crug Hywel, but the town retains many other links with the past. It has hosted a regular market and fair since at least 1281, while the pretty stone bridge running across the River Usk to the south of the town centre dates back to the 17th century. As well as the stunning countryside and intriguing history, cultural events are a major draw for people visiting Crickhowell. 

Every year, Crickhowell Choral Society presents a music festival that celebrates everything from Italian opera to traditional folk. Furthermore, Green Man – recognised as one of the UK’s best family-friendly music festivals – takes place every August at nearby Glanusk Park.  

The small, picturesque Powys town of Crickhowell is located in the beautiful Usk Valley to the south of the Black Mountains – the eastern extremity of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
