Walton-on-Thames is located in the north-west of Surrey on the banks of the River Thames. The name ‘Walton’ is Anglo Saxon in origin and is believed to mean ‘farm of the Britons’ or ‘Saxon settlement’. Today, Walton-on-Thames town centre boasts a wide range of entertainment and retail outlets.
The new shopping complex, ‘The Heart’, has a wide range of retail shops and restaurants, and a residential development. Just a short walk from the town centre is Walton’s Everyman Cinema or alternatively there is the River House Barn, the local arts centre which hosts plays and music events. There are also numerous pubs and bars in Walton that add to the town’s vibrant atmosphere.
There is also a quiet and tranquil side to Walton – a walk along the riverside by Cowey Sale and the Marina offering boat sales and river trips.
The popular Elmbridge Xcel Leisure Complex has an extensive range of sports facilities including swimming pools, climbing wall, aerobic studios, health and fitness suites, squash and badminton courts, and a children’s multi-story indoor play area.
